For her upcoming trip, she commissioned me to make her a new bag (as well as one for her mom and her sister - she's going on a family trip!). We went on an expedition to the fabric store and she picked out a fun "tropical" material, and I had some fabrics at home that would compliment it. I got right to work and came up with what we will now call the Get Outta Dodge Travel Satchel - Cruisin' Edition! How fun! I can't wait to make more of these with other destination themes....can you imagine the Get Outta Dodge - Sin City or Get Outta Dodge - Up North? I am already brainstorming the possible material combos!
Since they are going on a family cruise, I wanted to try to include the following:
- Ability to wear it across the body (SAFETY FIRST!)- but with an adjustable strap
- lightweight
- some sort of closure to the main pocket
- multiple pockets (sunglasses, camera, phone, bottle of water, wallet, etc.)
- possible matching little wallet-ID holder (for that Cruise ID that they make you carry EVERYWHERE)
Here's the finished product - and she LOVED them! I had a lot of fun with this project and can't wait for more requests!
| Front of Bag
button closure to main pocket
large diagonal pocket
two smaller front stripe pockets |
| all three bags - aqua, green and pink themes back of aqua bag is shown - one large back pocket |
| Main middle pocket I added button-holes to the strap for adjustment |
| coordinating mini-wallets |
| My favorite part - I finally got around to making some alphastar labels! |
cheers!
